The Tuscarawas County Senior Center is introducing a new recognition event, the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizen Hall of Fame Award. This award will be presented to a citizen of Tuscarawas County, age 50 and older, who has made a significant contribution to the Tuscarawas County community. Organizations and community members are encouraged to nominate candidates for this award. Applications for the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizen Hall of Fame Award can be picked up at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, located at 425 Prospect Ave., Dover, both Geib Funeral Home & Crematory locations, or the application can be downloaded at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center website, http://www.tuscsc.org. Applications are due no later than Friday, July 15, at 4:30 p.m., at the senior center. The Tuscarawas County Senior Citizen Hall of Fame Award will be presented Oct. 22, at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center Fall Gala, which will include entertainment and a steak dinner. All proceeds from the event will go toward the new Support Our Seniors program, which provides funding for seniors in the Tuscarawas County area to participate in activities and fitness programs at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center. The Tuscarawas County Senior Center is dedicated exclusively to serving the needs of adults 50 years of age and older. Each day an average of 250 seniors visit the center for meals, classes, prescription assistance/Medicare consultations, club meetings, exercise, medical screenings or relaxation with friends. The minor home repair, in-home and transportation services serve as a lifeline for hundreds of seniors who could not live independently without these programs.
