Last year’s Holmes County District Public Library book sale hosted by the Friends of the Holmes County Library featured thousands of books, CDs, DVDs and more. This year’s book sale at the Holmes Main Library in Millersburg Oct. 26-28 should be even bigger.

While used books may not be new, they can certainly make for some great gift-giving during the holiday season, or any time for that matter, and the Holmes County District Public Library will open its doors to the public for a special book sale.

The Friends of the Holmes County Library will host its annual book sale at the Holmes Main Library in Millersburg Oct. 26-28.

This annual event is an opportunity for those who enjoy reading to purchase bags full of books for a minimal fee, and at the same time, it is an event that allows the library to rejuvenate its stockpile and add some new reading material to its shelves.

“It’s a nice event for us because it allows us to create space to purchase new books while at the same time giving people a chance to buy some of their favorites at a very inexpensive price,” said Paul Cicconetti, Holmes County District Public Library director. “And where else are you going to find this type of selection where you can purchase a hardcover book for a quarter or 50 cents that probably cost upwards of $25 to buy new? It’s a win-win for everyone.”

On Thursday, Oct. 26 from 5-7 p.m., there will be an evening of members-only preview where only those who have a membership to the Friends of the Library can purchase material. There will be an opportunity for anyone wishing to join as members to do so and get shopping on the spot.

The public is then invited to stop by and pick through the thousands of books that will be available for purchase on Friday, Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The book sale will take place at the Holmes Central Library, 3102 Glen Drive, Millersburg. The book sale will be set up in the meeting room in the lower level, and there will be a variety of books from which families can choose. There will be a children’s section where kids can find some great buys.

The sale will include a variety of materials for all age groups, with a large selection of adult fiction materials. In addition to traditional books, shoppers will find books on CD, DVDS and music CDs up for grabs. The price is $3 per bag.

Proceeds from the book sale are used to support projects at the library such as programming, additional copies of popular adult books, children’s playgroup and other special projects.

Cicconetti said the library is grateful to the Friends of the Library members who have done an excellent job of raising funds and supporting the effort of the library.

“We really appreciate them putting in all the hours of work to get this event ready,” Cicconetti said. “It’s a lot of work, but they are an incredible group and have done a wonderful job of supporting our library and our commitment to serve our community by offering them the very best material possible.”

The FHCL is always looking for new members to join the group. The next meeting of the FHCL is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m., and all are welcome to attend. Anyone with questions can speak to any of the FHCL volunteers at the event.
