Programs and resources accessible to all at the library
One of the top priorities of the Tuscarawas County Public Library System is to make programs and resources accessible to all. The library accomplishes this in a variety of ways including budget-friendly programs and free resources.
“There are so many ways that using the library can save families money,” Library Director Michelle McMorrow Ramsell said. “One of our sayings here at the library is that you can borrow more than you can buy. Libraries really are a great place to try new things without worrying about the cost.”
In addition to borrowing items, Ramsell said individuals can use library resources to grow their career through technology classes or free LinkedIn Learning access, create gifts with a new MakerSpace activity and more.
Here are 10 resources the Tuscarawas County Public Library System offers free of charge to customers:
—Notary services: Some places may charge for notary services. However, you can call one of the five locations or stop by and make an appointment for these services without a fee.
—Wi-Fi access points: The Tuscarawas County Public Library System offers free Wi-Fi access at each of its locations. Even if you are away from the buildings, there are access points in the county available to you. To see the map of access points, visit www.tusclibrary.org.
—Online courses: You can access free online courses through LinkedIn Learning to build your job skills. Not to mention, if you need help with daily technology or want to boost your resume, Northstar Digital Literacy offers online courses as well.
—Movies, music and TV shows: While you can check out movies, music and TV shows from the collection in the buildings, did you know there are more free titles available on streaming resources such as Hoopla, Libby and Kanopy? If you have a library card in good standing, you can access titles on these platforms and lower the cost of your paid monthly subscriptions.
—Museum passes: Reserve one of the museum passes for a day out in an art museum, the Akron Zoo, Pro Football Hall of Fame and more. TCPL cardholders in good standing are eligible to check out a museum pass for free.
—Meeting rooms: Check out meeting rooms, free and available to the public. Reserve a room for up to two days a month at the Bolivar Branch Library or the Tuscarawas County Main Library.
—MakerSpace activities: The library has several classes to explore the MakerSpace and take on different design projects with new technology.
—Genealogy research: The library offers free access to a version of Ancestry.com so you can explore your family history while you visit. Also, the Book-A-Genealogist program can help you use different databases for your research.
—Library of Things: The Library of Things offers a variety of tools for hobbies such as telescopes, metal detecting, hot spots and more. It also offers tools for daily health and well-being such as a blood pressure monitor, a thermometer, a light therapy lamp and more.
—Seed Library: The Seed Library at the Tuscarawas County Main Library allows individuals to check out seeds they are interested in growing, save seeds from the flowers or vegetables grown, and return a portion of the saved seeds to the library for others to use next year.
