The Tuscarawas County YMCA held its annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Dinner on Monday, March 21 at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center in Dover with 120 in attendance. YMCA volunteers were recognized for their leadership in programs, special events, activities and service on boards and committees. All volunteers in attendance were presented with a special gift in appreciation of their service. Bill Singhaus, chairman of the YMCA board of directors, led the meeting. Retiring board members Jeff Bok and Jason Baker were recognized and thanked for their service on the board. Dan Hershberger was recognized and thanked for his service to the YMCA board of trustees. Newly elected members to the board of directors were introduced. They include Matt Judy, Brian Marsh II, Sue Ferbrache, Jim Wherley Jr. and Ashley Wagner. Newly elected trustees recognized are Andy Chapman, Bob Gerber and Mark Heil. Ken Engstrom was recognized for his service as chairman of the board of trustees this past year. Also recognized at the dinner for outstanding support of the 2015 Strong Kids Campaign were the YMCA Chairman’s Roundtable sponsors: Black McCuskey, Boxcar Properties, Dwain and Connie Colvin, Jack and Sally Dooling, Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union, First National Bank of Dennison, Haman Family Foundation, Healthways Inc., Mark and Irene Heil, Helen Brach Foundation, Hugh Fraser Fund, Jack Marsh Golf Outing, JD Byrider, Keith and Becky Lands, Kiwanis Club of New Philadelphia, Robert Klopfer Family, Ann Marsh, Brian and Pam Marsh, Steve and Becky Mastin, Ellen Matics Trust, Sara Miller Fund, Wanda Miller, Brent and Stacy Mullet, Matt and Melanie Neidenthal, Park Village Health Center, Pioneer 360, Craig and Melody Rader, Joe and Sarah Sciarretti, William Singhaus, Steve and Ginny Stocker, Wendy’s, YMCA Wreath Auction and Zimmer Surgical. The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign is an annual fundraiser that insures that no child is ever denied YMCA services or programs because of an inability to pay. In 2015, the Annual Strong Kids Campaign raised more than $84,000 to provide direct assistance to more than 500 kids and family members and more than $90,000 to help subsidize youth programs for children. Jay Dummermuth was recognized and thanked for his service as chairman for the 2015 campaign. The Rush Community Church of the Nazarene was recognized and received the Youth Christian Spirit Award for their youth group’s outstanding work and service to the Christian community through their work in the District Building Leaders and Sharing Talents program, the annual Easter Sunrise Service, the 30 hours of famine to raise awareness for world hunger, and working and teaching other youth. The YMCA Family of the Year award was awarded to the Billman family of New Philadelphia. The family members include R. Gregory, Amanda, Braydan and Brenton. The entire family is active in YMCA programs and activities including swimming, fitness and family nights. John and Mary Hammond of Dennison were recognized as the 2015 Volunteers of the Year. They are active members of the Silver Sneakers program and volunteer in numerous areas of the YMCA including supervising teen dances, helping with Healthy Kids Day and filling envelopes. Craig Rader of Dover received the Leo Poland Award for outstanding longtime service to the YMCA. An active member of the YMCA for more than 40 years, he has served on the board of directors and board of trustees and for the past 10 years as treasurer of the board of trustees. He has taken active roles in all the capital campaigns that the YMCA has undertaken over the past 20 years and served as chairman of the last Executive Search Committee in 1995. His leadership and support of the YMCA has been unwavering and instrumental in its overall success. The Tuscarawas County YMCA is located at 600 Monroe St. in Dover with a program satellite located at 215 N. Third St. in Dennison. YMCA membership totals more than 5,000 and has more than 12,000 annual participants. The YMCA is a United Way agency.
