Local couple Jonathan and Christine Court signed up for Aultman Orrville Hospital’s Weight Management program. As a result they lost a combined total of 150 pounds. The couple first learned about the program from a friend. After taking the first leap to attend the free orientation, they decided to put their weight-loss efforts into the hands of professionals by signing up for the program. Jonathan Court had struggled with his weight for over 10 years. “I would start my own weight-loss routine only to see it through for a week, and then I would fall back to old habits,” he said. “I was busy and eating fast food. I tried to cook when I could but just found no success with weight loss.” Even under the supervision of a team, losing weight has its challenges. Both Jonathan and Christine Court found that to be true in their first few weeks of the program. Christine Court was especially challenged during her very first week when she had to attend a conference for work and was surrounded by food. On the other hand Jonathan Court found his struggle to be most difficult through the holidays. The couple found it helpful to share their weight-loss goals with co-workers and family members. This created a support system that helped them adapt to their new routine and still enjoy their time with friends and family. Aultman Weight Management provides tools and support for weight-loss efforts with medical tracking, follow-up, staff-directed exercise and supervision from a medical staff. Jonathan Court said the most helpful tool in the program was the one-on-one education and classes. “The program doesn’t change who you are, but it changes your understanding of yourself and gives you a new perspective to becoming a healthier you,” Jonathan Court said. “For example, even when I am limited on time, I know how to fit in a specific workout for a busy day.” Christine Court said the Aultman Orrville Weight Management program helped her learn how to change her home environment, how to choose healthier food options and how to view food as a fuel rather than entertainment. Christine Court spoke about her future goals. “I want to keep active, and I am looking forward to the S.T.A.R. (Steps To Avoid Regain) program,” she said. “Since there is ‘less of me,’ I have increased energy to be more active and enjoy time outside.” Aultman Orrville’s Weight Management program is located in Aultman Orrville’s sports and wellness facility, located at 365 S. Crown Hill Road. For information or to join, visit www.aultmanorrville.org or call 330-684-4733.
