Healthy Aging Clinic is March 5 in Holmesville
The Falls Prevention Program of Holmes & Wayne, under the direction of the Holmes County General Health District, is sponsoring a Healthy Aging Clinic for the 60 and over population at Holmesville Church of Christ, 204 W. Main St., Holmesville, on Wednesday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This clinic is not income based; anyone age 60 and over is encouraged to participate. Registration is required.
The Healthy Aging Clinic will provide free fall risk screenings, balance screenings, hearing screenings and vision screenings. Each screening will be no more than 30 minutes in length.
Individuals can register for a fall risk screening provided by a Standing Against Falls Coalition active member. The screening will use resources from the Stopping Elderly Accidents Deaths and Injuries program created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and will be reviewed with the participant with potential referral to the Falls Prevention Program.
The balance screenings will be provided by trained Medical Reserve Corps volunteers of the HCGHD. The participant will be screened in three different fall risk assessments with follow-up review of assessment findings with Kerry MacQueen, health educator/injury prevention coordinator at the HCGHD, with a possible referral to the Falls Prevention Program of Holmes & Wayne.
Modern Hearing Solutions will conduct the hearing screenings. Education on the results of the screening will be reviewed with the participant with potential referrals.
Kristin Yabroff, RN and Medical Reserve Corps volunteer, is a certified adult vision screener and will provide this service as a screening only. No diagnosis will occur. State vision provider information from Prevent Blindness, Ohio affiliate, will be made available to those who participate in the vision screening.
The Falls Prevention Program announced an additional screening will be made available at the March 5 clinic. This screening will be done by Jessica Boal, RN and director of Community Wellness, who will measure orthostatic hypotension, also known as postural hypotension. Low blood pressure can lead to a fall, but you can take measures to prevent a fall from occurring, and being screened can be your first step.
Call MacQueen at the health district at 330-674-5035 ext. 251 to schedule an appointment. No walk-in appointments are available.
