Memory Cafe now open in Wooster
A Dementia Friendly LIFE, an Ohio nonprofit organization, is sponsoring a local opportunity for people with dementia and their caregivers called The Memory Cafe. This is a cost-free option to get out and experience socialization, activities, exercise, music therapy and lunch, all at no personal expense and with no reservations needed. Attendance is optional, so participants can come and go according to their own schedules.
The Memory Cafe is housed at the First Presbyterian Church in Wooster on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is close parking with easy access on the ground floor near the main doors of the church, which are located across from Drug Mart on Beall Avenue in Wooster.
The Memory Cafe provides an accepting environment for an outing and a meal without the barriers that sometimes can accompany such excursions.
The Wooster location is the newest one of five that A Dementia Friendly LIFE has sponsored in Ohio. Local partners include Danbury Senior Living, First Presbyterian Church and Sprenger Health Care. The staff includes Kathy Odenkirk, music therapist; Racheal Braeunig, exercise instructor; Christen Uhl, service manager; and Betty Pszenitzki, volunteer.
