More mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus

The Tuscarawas County Health Department was notified Aug. 6 by the Ohio Department of Health that three mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile virus.

                        

The Tuscarawas County Health Department was notified Aug. 6 by the Ohio Department of Health that three mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile virus as part of TCHD’s Mosquito Control Program.

One of the positive mosquito samples was collected July 24 at 9000 Camp Road NW, Dundee. The other two positive mosquito samples were collected July 25 at 5610 Lindentree Road NE in Mineral City and 2673 Pleasant Valley Road in New Philadelphia. These positive mosquito samples bring the total to five mosquito samples with West Nile virus detected in Tuscarawas County this season.

The health department responded to the positive test results according to recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and conducted mosquito spraying in Mineral City and Fairfield Township on Thursday, Aug. 8.

Mosquito spraying was conducted in Wayne Township on Sunday, Aug. 11.

The Tuscarawas County Health Department accepts requests for no-spray areas from all residents. To submit a no-spray request, call or email the TCHD Bureau of Environmental Health Services at 330-343-5550 or eh@tchdnow.org.
