Red Hot Mamas menopause group to meet Jan. 5

Every month, the Red Hot Mamas meet at Wooster Community Hospital to learn how to become proactive participants in their own health care. This month, Arica Betson, registered dietitian, and Sherry Leggett, health and wellness specialist, will present a lively session about the changing nutritional and exercise needs during the menopausal transition: Staying Fit, Strong, and Fabulous: Prescription for a Healthy Life. The meeting will take place Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 6:30 p.m., in the auditorium at Wooster Community Hospital. By approaching menopause as a new and exciting stage of life and planning for the changes, more women can feel self-assured, healthy and more energetic. Find out how eating a balanced diet, and participating in regular exercise and not smoking have been found to improve a woman’s menopause experience. Find out how the reduction or elimination of certain foods from the diet can minimize hot flashes, and learn that it is not just imagination; that waistband really is getting tighter. But there are things that can be done about it. Making healthy choices and learning as much as possible about the facts can empower women to look forward to and enjoy this new phase of life. Even younger women can benefit from this information by applying it earlier in their lives. To register for this program, call 330-263-8145, or e-mail wchrhm@wcho sp.org.
