It’s a motto to which we can all live by—life is short, eat dessert first! This was a favorite adage of Marine Peter Clore, who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty last month. Sadly, we lost another local son who stepped up to serve our country. I did not know Peter, but I had the opportunity to pay respects to him by attending the Mass of Christian Burial. He had a strong faith in God and country and was a young man who had a passion for serving others, which was displayed throughout his life. What a philosophy he followed. You can take that dessert to the bank and make great returns on life. Is it about going the distance, skydiving or bungee jumping? Maybe, but from my perspective, it’s more about what you do each and every day that makes a difference to help others, whether it’s across the street or around the world. Just think, eating dessert first. It not only sounds great, but it sure would be rewarding! Yes, some may say dessert is not good for you. But it might be just what the doctor ordered. How sweet the sound. This message is something we can all embrace from a proud young marine who gave his life so we can live in freedom. We can each pay tribute to Peter by skipping right to dessert. If so, we wouldn’t let the main course distract us from what’s most important in life. A little cake never hurt anyone! Thank you Lance Corporal Peter Clore.
