At the Nov. 15 meeting of Port Washington Village Council, it was reported demolition and cleanup at an abandoned property are complete. The house at 113 N. High St. was acquired through the county sheriff’s sale process. The village intends to sell the property once a new appraisal is complete. State law requires the village to sell the property at no less than the appraised value.
Council members heard Community Block Development Grant funding will once again be available for 2023 projects. CBDG funds are often used for paving and other infrastructure projects. Estimates for any projects that may qualify for CBDG funding are due within the next two months.
After moving the polling location for the Nov. 8 election from the fire station to council chambers, Mayor Thomas Gardner requested the polls be moved back to the fire station. Gardner said although council chambers is accessible for people with disabilities, it does not have adequate space for maneuvering around the room when it is filled with people.
In other matters
Council approved the installation of a safety railing in the village garage loft area. A recent safety inspection noted the need for the railing. Council also approved additional insulation work in the garage.

The next Delaware Fire Department breakfast will be held Dec. 10 from 8-11 a.m., and Santa will be at the fire station on Dec. 18 from 5-7 p.m. The fire department’s recent square dance reportedly raised $400.
A Christmas party will be held for village staff, as well as the fire, police and street departments, on Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. at the fire station, followed by bowling.
Gardner has completed the Ohio Municipal League’s Mayor’s Court Training program for the year 2023.
A visitor to the council meeting, Darlene Pena, offered to sew village patches onto the police department clothing for free.
Port Washington Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the village hall.
