On Sept. 18, TOPS OH1573 Nashville opened with pledges. Mabel Leid was best weekly loser. She said to remove one snack every day. Lana Rush was best weekly KOPS. The club continued its Trip Across America contest.

Leo Tope presented a program from TOPS News. The first article, titled “More Steps for Better Health,” said any increase in steps taken significantly lowers mortality rate in older people. The second article, titled “Revamp Your Recipes,” included tips such as the following:

—Work on swapping out refined grains for whole grains.

—Use lean proteins like skinless chicken, turkey, fish, beans and tofu instead of beef and pork.

—Reduce sodium by using herbs, spices or vinegar.

—Use mashed bananas or unsweetened applesauce to add sweetness and moisture to a recipe.

TOPS meets Wednesdays at the Nashville Global Methodist Church at 5:30 p.m., with weigh-in at 5 p.m. The first meeting is free.
