Democratic women meet

                        
The Tuscarawas County Democratic Women recently met in Democratic headquarters for the January business meeting. The meeting was called to order by Sue Kimble, president and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Georgie Korns, vice president. The secretary’s minutes were presented by Jeanne Stephens and the treasurer’s report by Colleen Espenschied. Sue Elvin, corresponding secretary, reported that sympathy, get well and thank you cards were sent to various members. Angela Howard was a guest who became a new member. Kathleen Purdy, a Democratic candidate for the 33rd District of the Ohio Senate, was the guest speaker. She is a widow from Alliance and a sixth-grade school teacher. She spoke briefly, stating her qualifications, and offered humorous insights into her life. Under old business, Kimble thanked the members for the cookies they provided for the Martin Luther King Jr. event at the Dover Baptist Church. Kimble said the event was well attended and attorney Richard Renner was very impressive as the keynote speaker. Under new business, plans for the spaghetti dinner, to be held Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds, from noon to 4 p.m., were discussed. Congratulations were extended to Ida Barlock, who was elected by the Democratic Executive Party to fill the seat on the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections. Job openings were posted for positions with the Ohio Democratic Party and census jobs. Further information can be obtained by calling 330-343-9642. Upcoming scheduled events are the card party, April 21, and spring banquet, April 28, at R&S Party Center. Door prizes were won by Dolly Contini and Nancy Johnson. The next meeting will be Feb. 17, at 6 p.m., at Democratic headquarters.
