Northwestern Ruritans meet
                        

The Northwestern Ruritan Club met Jan. 8 for the monthly dinner/meeting at Northwestern High School. President Jamie Bowman welcomed members and guests, the group joined in singing “America” and the invocation was given by Jim Johnson. The lasagna dinner was served by the school chefs.

Perfect attendance for 2023 was attained by Mike Becker, Jamie Bowman, Dave Hawthorne, Dave Howman, Stan Holmes, Fred Ladrach, Kim Wellert and Sherri Wellert. Perfect attendance with makeup was attained by John Ertl, Sarah Hawthorne, Kathleen Howman, Jim Johnson, Phil Keener, Jerry Payn and Dick Wiley. Snowbird perfect attendance was attained by Rich Vitello and with makeup by Bob Criss.

Chuck Beck’s treasurer’s report was approved subject to audit, with Mike Becker completing a review of the past year's financial records and finding no discrepancies. A motion was passed that the 2024 budget as presented was accepted.

Randy Tegtmeier, chair of the pancake/sausage day, reported on plans for the event to be held March 9 at Northwestern High from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a drive-thru to pick up meals, the junior class will assist, there will be yard signs for advertising and the club will sell ads for place mats. Prices are the same as last year — $8 per meal, $7 for those 65 and over, $5 for children age 6-10, and free for children age 5 and under. The March club meeting will be held March 4 to make final plans for the pancake/sausage day.

Following the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, club members broke out into respective committees to make plans for the year. Members were dismissed following the committee meetings.

The next dinner/meeting will be Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m., with the program by the food drive and charity committee, chaired by Pastor Paul Bartholomew. The director’s meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the school library.
