Smithville Historical Society pays visit to Smith Orr Homestead

                        
Smithville Community Historical Society met at the Smith Orr Homestead in Orrville on Monday, Oct. 5. Members learned the history of and toured the homestead. Rex Miller presented a copy of his book, In Search of Obedience, God Brought Me to America, to the society. In other business, members learned the bake oven is ready to use. Lights are being installed in the Mishler Mill Annex. A summer kitchen was moved to the Pioneer Village last week. It will be renovated to become a tin shop. All society buildings were open Oct. 10-11 for the farm tour and members made apple butter on Saturday, Oct. 10. Harlene Steiner and Nita Downey are the nominating committee to get nominees for the following offices: president, vice president, finance and fundraising chair, and buildings and grounds chair. Refreshments were served by Downey and Anita Rennecker. The next meeting will be Nov. 2, at 7 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 777 South Summit St., Smithville. Holly Boreman will speak on the history of handbells.
