Hiland boys soccer rolls to 7-0 victory over Flames

Christian Mullet and the Hawks are off to another high-flying season. Hiland kept winning last week, whitewashing Mansfield Christian 7-0.

                        

Hiland rolled to a 7-0 win over Mansfield Christian in boys soccer action on Aug. 30.

Zeke Bodiker and Ohlen Troyer scored twice and assisted on another goal to lead the Hawks. Logan Hershberger scored once and assisted on three other goals while Christian Mullet and Caedon Hershberger scored once. Chase Coblentz recorded four saves in the net.

“This was a nice bounce-back performance after a disappointing result earlier this week against a good Marlington team,” Hiland coach Scott Bodiker said. “We played OK in that game but didn’t get the result we felt we could have, and the guys were ready to get back on track tonight.”

Boys golf

Hiland picked up a 159-192 win over Malvern in Inter-Valley Conference play on Sept. 3.

Camden Bille led the Hawks with a 38, followed by Andrew Beun (39), Jack Mast (40) and Zane Rossetti (42).

Hiland shot a 355 to finish 10th at the 15-team Dover Invitational on Aug. 31.

Mast paced the Hawks with an 80. Beun added an 87, Jesse Conn a 91 and Bille a 97.

Hiland downed Claymont 157-173 in IVC play on Aug. 28.

Beun led the Hawks with a 36. Mast chipped in a 37 while Conn added a 40.

Girls soccer

Hiland and Mansfield Christian played to a scoreless draw on Aug. 30.

Lady Hawks goalkeeper Allie Hershberger finished with three saves.

“(It was a) really hard-fought game against a strong Mansfield Christian squad,” Hiland coach Conner Lee said. “(I) would have loved to sneak a goal in but ultimately happy with the result.”

Boys cross country

Hiland competed at the Newcomerstown Invitational on Aug. 31.

Landon Troyer finished 32nd in 19:15.86, Jake Troyer finished 50th in 19:51.89 and Nathan Young finished 94th in 22:09.57.

Volleyball

New Lexington downed Hiland 25-23, 25-9, 21-25, 25-23 in nonleague action on Aug. 31.

Halle Shetler paced the Lady Hawks with 27 assists. Olivia Miller had 15 digs, Addison Starn had 14 kills, Alayna Yoder had 12 kills and Addi Mast had 11 kills.

Hiland picked up a 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 win over Claymont in IVC play on Aug. 29.

Brianna Mishler led the Lady Hawks with 17 assists and three aces. Mast chipped in 12 kills and two blocks, Lehla Schlabach added 17 digs and seven kills, and Starn contributed seven kills.
