West Holmes started offering bowling as a varsity sport during the 2022-23 season.

WH’s boys and girls teams made plenty of progress over their first two seasons and are looking to take another step forward this season.

The boys finished last season 9-10 overall and 6-6 in the Ohio Cardinal Conference while the girls finished 14-5 and 9-3.

Three letterwinners return for the boys — seniors Caden Medley, Brayden Whitman and Nathan Scott — and two for the girls — senior Chloe Miller and junior Aubree Young.

“You always have differences (compared to last year) at the beginning of the season with new members and new season jitters,” third-year coach Chris Young said.

Freshman Ryan Rowland is a promising newcomer for the boys this year while classmate Madison Brenneman is one for the girls.

Coach Young expects teamwork to be a strength for both teams and doesn’t expect either team to have a weakness.

As for where each team will finish in the OCC landscape, he said they never like to give predictions.

“We always just hope to finish on top,” he said. “What happens in between is up to the coaches and bowlers.”
