The Tusky Valley Ruritan Club met Tuesday, March 18 for its monthly dinner meeting at the Fairfield Fire Department in Somerdale. Eleven members and three guests were in attendance.

The ladies auxiliary of the department had decorated the fire hall in a St. Patrick’s Day theme and served a Swiss steak dinner with salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, homemade noodles, and rolls and butter. Drinks were water, green punch and coffee. Dessert was a shamrock Jell-O cake.

Club Secretary Amy Burrier confirmed the food trailer will be repaired by Dave Neading and will be ready for use at the Bolivar Strawberry Festival scheduled June 5-7. President Randie McRobie notified the club that Bolivar is extending the festival this year to include Sunday, June 8 as part of the bicentennial celebration of the festival.

Jen Ladrach reported about a possible fundraiser being suggested by Texas Roadhouse of New Philadelphia. This would be a drive-thru event at the restaurant featuring a pulled-pork meal for adults and a hot dog meal for kids. The club will continue discussions with the Roadhouse to finalize details and possibly schedule a date.

The club will investigate their possible food trailer use at an upcoming auction in Zoar and during the Little Twist of Mineral City celebration.

Scott Pennell reported the club had received 15 applications from upcoming graduating seniors at Tusky Valley. His committee will review those and will select five students to each receive a $1,000 scholarship to use for their post-secondary education. The students and their families will be invited to attend the club’s April meeting to receive their recognition.

The club’s April meeting will be held Tuesday, April 15 at 6 p.m. at the St. Paul’s Community Church in Mineral City.
